Safety on Foot

Unfortunately searches for straying hikers at Ilulissat Fjord occur regularly. Serious accidents can be avoided if you:
  • Inform other people as to your whereabouts and the time you plan to return
  • Talk to other people who know the area
  • Do not hike alone
  • Bring a map
  • Bring hot and waterproof clothes (pull-on trousers, hat, and mittens)
  • Bring food and drink
  • Check the weather forecast (sudden thick fog is not unusual during the summer months)
  • Turn back before you get too tired or supercooled
The person in distress may be required to pay the expenses of search rescues caused by self-inflicted accidents or irresponsible conduct.
