The Park Ranger
The first park ranger at World Heritage Area Ilulissat Icefjord was employed in 2009. The park ranger surveils the area and guides the visitors.
The increasing number of visitors to the World Heritage Area requires increased surveillance. Accordingly, Avannaata Municipality now employs a park ranger who comes and goes in the protected area on a daily basis.
One of the duties of the park ranger is to ensure that the prevailing laws are kept, that there is a good dialogue with the visitors to the area, and that the amenities of the area are in good shape. The park ranger is expected to work all year round, and his office is located in Ilulissat Icefjord Office. However, during the summer he is primarily engaged near the Icefjord. During winter he patrols the large area on dog sledge. In the darkest phase he also participates in a number of administrative tasks in the Icefjord Office. Finally, the park ranger regularly arranges a number of public events in the World Heritage Area.
Aron E. Petersen is at present employed as park ranger at Ilulissat Icefjord. He speaks Greenlandic, English, and Danish. During work hours he can be contacted on mobile phone +299 545262 or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org. Naturally you are always welcome to contact the park ranger, if you meet him in the mountains.
